Center Based Option Program Specialist

Position Summary:

The Center Based Option Program Specialist provides project leadership and direction to staff in the Early Head Start program. The position provides support in the delivery of comprehensive services in the following areas: safety, health, nutrition, learning environments, social and emotional development, disabilities, and family support. These family support services are provided the within the State and Federal programs operated in partnership with 4C Council of Santa Clara County and San Juan Bautista Child Development Center.


Example of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the duties of Family Advocates in      enrolling families, preparing Family Partnership Agreements, helping      families with attainable goal setting, and providing outside referrals and      resources to families, as needed
  • Responsible for entering all information into the      ChildPlus data system
  • Maintains the Educational and School Readiness      components for Early Head Start requirements
  • Administers the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ),      and ASQ S/E screening tools on all EHS children with their families and/or      primary care teachers
  • Collects and submits data for the Desired Result      Developmental Profile (DRDP) on-going assessment system
  • Analyzes the outcome reports from the DRDP system
  • Assists in disseminating and collecting parent      surveys
  • Assists in the implementation of the Creative      Curriculum for Infants, Toddlers and Twos
  • Assists in environmental monitoring using the      Infant/Toddler Environment Rating Scale (ITERS)classroom      observation tool, and plans any environmental changes within the San Juan      Bautista staff, as needed
  • Generates referrals for children that staff and/or      parents may have concerns with
  • Attends any Individualized Family Service Plan      (IFSP) or Individualized Education Program (IEP) transitional meetings for      Early Head Start children
  • Assists in a transitioning plan when children are      30 months old
  • Assists with the health and safety of children,      and assists in creating safe environments
  • Assists the San Juan Bautista Child Development Center staff in recruiting      eligible families, as needed
  • Act as a liaison between 4C Council EHS and San      Juan Bautista EHS
  • Submits a weekly report to the EHS Program      Director
  • Meets      regularly with necessary staff to assure quality services
  • Attends      staff meetings, trainings, and professional development activities, as      appropriate
  • Communicates      in a respectful manner and cooperates with diverse families, various      professionals and community groups
  • Additional      duties may be assigned as required


Education and/or Experience:

  • BA Degree, or higher, in Child Development, Social Science, Psychology, Human Development, or related field
  • Minimum of three (3)  years of experience in Health, Nutrition, Mental Health, or Social Services      field
  • A Child Development Teacher Permit or higher from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, with Infant and Toddler course completed is recommended
  • Experience working with a Head Start or Early Head Start program is preferred
  • Knowledge of community resources and experience in providing family services is preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Knowledge of office management and organization skills and techniques
  • Competent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to multitask and perform assigned work with speed and accuracy
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills


License or Other Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid California driver license, have access to an insured motor vehicle and clear driving record
  • Required to travel to Santa Clara County areas to facilitate assignments to center/classroom sites, meetings and other      off-site destinations
  • Must be able to travel, locally and nationally
  • Must be willing to work beyond the usual work week to accomplish the job
  • Must pass criminal background check
  • Must have up to date physical and tuberculosis screening results


Language Skills:

English Proficiency is required. Bilingual Vietnamese or Spanish is preferred.
