POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Teacher, the Aide assists the classroom staff in the implementation of individualized goals and objectives set forth in the partnership with the Parent/Guardian and the Teaching staff for children identified in need of additional guidance within the classroom environment. The Aide will participate in regular communication with staff concerning children and ongoing communication with parents/guardians. The Aide will support classroom and playground supervision to ensure the safety of every child.  The Aide will be a floater between the classrooms as assigned or needed.

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Observes and records specific behavioral data as well as targeted goals and objectives as directed by the
  2. Routinely communicates observations and progress with program
  3. Adapts planned activities, materials, and equipment to facilitate participation by special needs
  4. Helps promote communication, play, and socialization with
  5. Performs required care-giving activities for children as necessary (i.e. feeding, toileting, dressing, )
  6. Implements behavior management techniques and monitors progress and effectiveness as directed by the
  7. Assists staff in implementing curriculum and individualized goals for the special needs children to promote growth and learning in all developmental
  8. Encourage parental involvement into the program and maintain ongoing communication with parents/guardians in a professional and respectful manner, with
  9. Additional classroom duties as assigned by Teacher in conducting day-to-day site
  10. Other duties as

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintain a valid, unrestricted California Driver’s license and ability to be insurable under CRIHB’s automobile insurance. If employee has a valid license from another state, he/she must obtain a CA license within 2 months of hiring
  2. Position requires occasional over night travel within CRIHB’s service area.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. One (1) year experience working with children ages 3-5.
  2. Six (6) units in early childhood Education or Child Development preferred.
  3. Desire to increase knowledge of normal child growth/development, parent-child relationships, and children with special needs.
  4. Able to demonstrate sound and mature judgment.
  5. Ability and  knowledge  to  work  with  3-5  year  old  children  and  meet  Head  Start Standards of Conduct and Confidentiality.
  6. Write logically, clearly, concisely, and effectively with good grammar.
  7. Skills in working with a diverse group of parents/guardians.
  8. Self-motivated, ability to work independently and with a team.
  9. Current physical exam, negative tuberculosis test, Hep B series I, II, and III as required, CPR, First Aid certification, and criminal background fingerprint clearance, Megan’s Law and Trust

 

This  position  requires  an  awareness  and  keen  appreciation  of  American  Indian  traditions, customs and socioeconomic needs and the ability at all times to meet and deal effectively in contacts with American Indian organizations which requires tact, courtesy, discretion, resourcefulness, and good judgment in handling functions of a sensitive nature. 

Preference in hiring is given to qualified American Indians in accordance with the Indian Preference Act (Title 25, U.S. Code, Sections 472 and 473).  Applicants claiming Indian Preference must submit Indian verification, certified by Tribe of affiliation or other acceptable documentation of Indian heritage.
