The Education Manager is responsible for the overall management and supervision of the Education component within a Head Start /Early Head Start and Title 5 program, serving children 0-5 and their families, as well as pregnant women. Duties include developing and implementing professional development activities for teaching staff across twelve to fourteen centers throughout San Francisco. Duties also include monitoring education activities to ensure alignment with Federal Head Start/Early Head Start Performance Standards, California Department of Education requirements and, California Department of Social Services requirements for early education. Additional responsibilities include ensuring that professional development activities and monitoring occur within the Home Visiting component and Family Child Care component. Other duties include supervision of coaches and Education Specialist.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Develop written policies and procedures that provide guidance on quality teaching practices for the education of children.
  • Train teaching staff on the use of Creative Curriculum and provides follow up training to Center Managers and teachers to ensure curriculum is being implemented with fidelity
  • Conducts curriculum fidelity Monitoring twice a year, utilizing Curriculum Fidelity Monitoring Tool
  • Develops a Written Curriculum Implementation Plan
  • Provides training for teaching staff on child assessments, including training on how to conduct meaningful observations of children
  • Provides training to teachers on the Desired Results Developmental Profile(DRDP) including training on uploading observations in the Learning Genie system
  • Monitors Child Plus data base system reports, including the 2535 Latest Occurrence of Education Events report monthly to ensure that all education activity is sufficiently documented
  • Monitors Learning Genie system to ensure that child observations are high quality and that the DRDP for all children are occurring within the specified DRDP cycles of completion
  • Supervises and trains Education Coaches monthly to ensure coaching activity is in alignment with the Practice Based Coaching Model
  • Conducts monthly Education Team Meetings
  • Develops and oversees the distribution of a coaching interest survey and reviews the selection and follow up plan and coaching agreements each Fall and Spring
  • Collects and reviews all coaching data, including Teacher Goal Planning and Action Tool to ensure coaching activity is progressing toward goal attainment
  • Aggregates all coaching data to show coaching outcomes, including categorizing goals, quantifying the number of teachers receiving coaching services and summarizing the status of goals
  • Distributes and analyzes a Mid-Year Coaching Evaluation to all teachers participating in coaching
  • Prepares a Mid-Year Coaching Report by April reflecting all activity from October through March, and includes summary of Midyear evaluations
  • Distributes and analyzes an End of Year Coaching Evaluation to all teachers participating in coaching
  • Prepares an End of Year Coaching Report, reflecting all coaching activity occurring from April through August,
  • Prepares Monthly Child Development department report summarizing Education activity for the previous month and outlining upcoming goals for the current month.
  • Conducts Classroom Scoring and Assessment System (CLASS) assessments twice a year in specified classrooms
  • Collaborates with staff to develop School Readiness Goals and monitors education activity to ensure the implementation of School Readiness Goals
  • Collaborates with San Francisco Unified School District to maintain awareness of Kindergarten Readiness requirements
  • Oversees the School Readiness Committee and convenes and reviews the group 3 times each year after each assessment checkpoint
  • Supports teachers in preparing children for the transition into Kindergarten
  • Make presentations as needed to Policy Council to keep the council informed of education progress citywide, including a summary of aggregated DRDP and CLASS
  • Presents new Education policies to the Policy Council for approval
  • Participates in Monthly Management Team meetings
  • Collaborate with other Head Start Managers to facilitate services in an integrated, comprehensive approach.
  • Participates in monthly Data Team Meetings
  • Conducts Data presentations, including data analysis, for the management Team meeting for planning and professional development considerations
  • Participates in periodic community recruitment activities, including weekend events

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education

COMPETENCIES 

  • Must be able to develop educational services from a foundation of culturally relevant, inclusive practices to effectively serve highly diverse populations of children
  • Must be familiar with effective strategies for serving dual language learners
  • Must able to identify and address areas of racial and cultural disparities in education and design equitable teaching practices for diverse groups of children
  • Must be able to train extensively on site, virtually or in other designated training venues.
  • Be available for consultation on curriculum, DRDP and other educational requirement as needed
  • Be willing to visit sites as needed
  • Demonstrate knowledge of principles and practices of Adult Learning
  • Familiarity with Teaching Pyramid a plus.

  • Salary Range $107,000 to 110,000 annually, exempt
