Summary:
The Substitute Associate Teacher/Teacher is responsible for assisting the Site Supervisor in the preparation and execution of the program in conformance with the Head Start Performance Standards and/or State Preschool Guideline, Title 22 and Title 5 of the California Administrative Code as applicable.
Reporting Requirements:
The Substitute Associate Teacher/Teacher is directly supervised by the Site Supervisor or Teacher-in-Charge.

This position varies in hours and months, non-exempt position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operates within the KidZCommunity vision/mission/values.
- Operates from the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.
- Follows the Head Start Performance Standards & Title 5.
- Follows the personnel policies & procedures.
- Operates within the KidZCommunity health & safety policies & procedures (i.e., timely health & safety daily checklist).
- KidZCommunity Operations Manual and Child Development Classroom Policies and Procedures.
- Follows procedures for the operation of the program in the center that conform to Head Start Performance Standards and/or State Preschool Guidelines, licensing and staffing requirements of Title 22 of the California Administrative Code and KidZKount Policies and Procedures.
- Assists in the modification of activities; removes barriers and provides support as needed for inclusion of children with disabilities in the full range of program activities.
- Follows the group environment plans, daily routine schedule, and maintain a developmentally appropriate learning environment, applying the principles, practices and philosophies of High/Scope.
- Assists in meeting all children’s identifiable individual nutritional needs as applicable by law; ensuring that a variety of foods take into account cultural and ethnic preferences while providing nutrition education to parents and children in a family style setting.
- Ensures that the health and safety of children is assured through: 1.Teaching children and parent’s preventative health practice; and 2. the establishment and practice of health emergency procedures including methods of handling suspected or known child abuse.
- Adheres to the agency personnel policies and the Head Start performance standards as relates to work performance and personal conduct.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge:
- Head Start Performance Standards, Title 22 and Title 5 CA Administrative code a plus.
- Agency policies governing operations related to job duties, work performance and personal conduct.
- Knowledge of child development principles
- Age-appropriate curriculum for preschool children.
- Positive guidance techniques.
- Health and safety for preschool age children, parent education techniques, community resources.
Mathematical Ability:
- Basic mathematical skills.
Language Ability:
- Correct English, including vocabulary, grammatical usage, spelling and punctuation.
- Ability to read and write effectively.
Reasoning Abilities:
- Work effectively with preschool children.
- Work effectively with staff and parents.
- Relate to persons from diverse cultures and to families from varied incomes.
- Interpersonal relationship approaches, anger diffusion and conflict resolution techniques.
Experience:
- One year of preschool teaching experience, preferably with Head Start.
Education and Permit:
- 24 ECE units or 12 ECE/CD units including core courses. High/Scope Certification a plus.
Continuing Education and Permits:
Physical Requirements and Work Conditions:
- Physical Activity: Constant sitting. Frequent bending, twisting and reaching. Occasional standing, walking, stooping crouching, crawling, carrying or driving; Ability to lift 45lbs.
- Use of Senses: Ability to articulate a normal conversation with normal hearing whether verbal or over the telephone. Normal vision corrected if necessary.
- Environmental Conditions: The duties of this position are usually performed in a hazard-free indoor environment and occasionally outdoors in weather conditions. The noise level is moderate.
- Atmospheric Conditions: No fumes, odors, dust, mildew, smoke, gasses or poor ventilation.
Other Requirements:
- Department of Justice Fingerprint and child abuse index clearance.
- Post-offer physical examination; TB clearance; proof of immunization or immunity to pertussis and measles; and annual flu vaccination or signed declination.
- Current Pediatric First Aid and CPR Certificate Preferred.
Miscellaneous:
- Optional participation in a minimum of two (2) civic events annually.
